Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has reportedly taken up Israeli citizenship after Britain refused to extend his visa which expired in April.
According to a report by the Times of Israel, the fiercely private oligarch and Chelsea F.C owner arrived in Israel on Thursday to finalize his Aliyah. Aliyah is the immigration of Jews from the diaspora to the Land of Israel. But the Interior Ministry confirmed on Monday that the Russian billionaire had received an ID card and will live in a lavish Tel Aviv mansion he bought from Gal Gadot, an Israeli actress and model.
Abramovich, 51, was conspicuously absent during Chelsea’s FA Cup over Manchester United two weeks ago. Eversince 2003 when Abramovich purchased the team, he had been present at almost every game, until his U.K visa problems began.
Roman Abramovich has a current net worth of $13.7 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
